Rescue and Teens Refresher Training

For dogs aged 6 months and upwards

Does your dog pull on walks, do they have poor recall, are they able to stay until released, will they focus in distracting situations and do you wish they would settle and be calm?

These life skills classes are a follow on for those who attended puppy classes and for dogs with some training but could do with more. It will build on duration of behaviours with distraction, it will develop focus and bonds with handlers, recall and loose lead walking whilst there are distractions.

It will also build your boundary games so that your dog is able to find their boundary and settle no matter where you are.

Starting to explore…

As our dogs hit their teens, that little puppy that would never leave your side can lose that need to be so close to you and set off for the hills each time they are let off the leash, they can become hard to manage and very wilful.

Training that you may have done with your puppy might seem forgotten and your dog may have gained selective hearing.

These classes will give you the tools to get that attention back on you and how to manage those times of over-arousal.

Skills taught include: covering specific issues that teens create like over-arousal, being fearful, dog body language, self-control, emergency stop, recall, drop, settle, engagement in the handler, disengagement from distractions, and more as well as discussions about hormones, training equipment, management, feeding. Plus any other questions you may have.

Old and new habits

Has your dog been trained but you’ve noticed standards have slipped? Or maybe you’ve rescued a dog. This class is ideal for those who want to have fun, quality time with their dogs. Positive reinforcement training is the best way of building bonds together.

These classes cover all levels of ability no matter if it’s basic.

Skills taught include: making the time to train for the issues you want to cover whilst also covering the basics like positions, stay, self-control, recalls, some tricks, confidence-building and working in arousal.

If you’ve rescued a dog it can take up to 6 months for them to fully settle into a new home. From a training perspective, there will be some extra considerations you will need to bear in mind and these will depend on the good or bad experiences your rescue dog has had in the past. Wobbly Dog’s games-based approach is fun and helps you to build trust and understanding together.

“Julia was a great help when I got my dog.  She always had very helpful tips when I was training him which made the whole job easier.  Later on when an adolescent he picked up some bad habits and she helped me to train him out of them. Julia works in a very gentle way but seems to really understand dog psychology and works out what the dog is trying to convey with its behaviour.  Once this is understood she has lots of really helpful advice on how to deal with it. I would use Julia’s expertise whenever I need it, she’s great.”
